Stoney Soaring High
Buxsworth 2 Stoney Middleton

Stoney moved to the top of the B division with a gutsy
display that earned a point at Buxsworth. Stoney started
well and opened the scoring after only nine minutes when
Scott hit a sweet volley low into the corner after some
fine build up play involving Fox and Brassington.
Buxsworth nearly hit back instantly when their centre
forward was clean through on goal only for Townsend to
make a timely interception. Stoney then went two up
thanks to Ridgeway who cannoned his effort into the net
off the underside of the crossbar after a fine cross
from Ryan Hodgkinson. Stoney's central midfield pairing
of Dan Hodgkinson and Ian Ridgeway dominated the action
making timely interceptions in defence one moment before
storming into the Buxsworth half with clever set up play
moments later proving their worth as midfield engines.
After the break Buxsworth hit back hard and scored when
Thompson chipped the on rushing keeper. Two minutes
later it was all square when Jackson scored from close
range. Stoney were now rocking on their heels and only
some smart tackling from Shaw and Fairey kept the home
side at bay. However as the game wore Stoney started to
dominate again. Scott and Fox both had good chances late
on for the Quarrymen as the game swept from end to end.
